MPACT were tasked with completing a Category B fit out to the Graham + Sibbald specification on behalf of Blackadders Solicitors. The firm, who were moving to larger premises in Edinburgh’s West End, wanted to reinforce their commitment to the Edinburgh marketplace through the new working environment being developed throughout their office network.
The design brief included a Reception area which underlined the image Blackadders wished to present to their clients. To encourage staff integration, the intention was to deliver a combined tea prep and an informal staff meeting area.
Further thought was given to client-facing spaces with special attention given to the design of the boardroom. Specifically, the forming of acoustic-rated panels which doubled as partitioning enabling room size to be adjusted to suit the needs of the meeting or presentation.
Additional works included full decorating and carpeting throughout; the co-ordination of FF&E and the installation of the data infrastructure.
The client had chosen a modern office block incorporating Grade A open-plan office space with the facilities and amenities expected from prestigious premises. To meet the operating needs of Blackadders in this environment.
The principal aim of the design was to reinforce the culture change being introduced by Blackadders in their premises throughout Scotland. Of particular importance was the presentation of a modern flexible working environment which would encourage improved teamwork and collaboration. To emphasise this, the office space incorporates a pod style layout to maximise desk sharing and agile working.
In addition, with increasing numbers of clients visiting their premises, the design reflected the enhanced client facilities as well as excellent event and function space.
On completion of the handover process, we actively seek feedback both good and bad as it may be that a client doesn’t mention something ‘minor’ unless prompted. We don’t like to leave this to chance. Of course, positive comments are more than welcome too!
One particular statement stood out for us and that was their reference to our ‘If it’s possible, we’ll do it’ attitude and approach. Throughout the project the client and their design team were able to call upon us for variations and changes of spec even at short notice.
Above all, ensuring that we provided ‘lots of communication’ meant that the project was a smooth running operation from start to finish and greatly helped in putting minds at rest.
As you can see from the images above, the finish expected and delivered was to a high standard and met with the approval of all parties.
